The activism of the teens from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida were the inspiration for this week's choice.
Avery McRae (bottom right in above photo) likes horses, plays the piano and with 20 other young people is suing the US government in Juliana v. United States, a case filed in Eugene in 2015 on the grounds that the federal government has knowingly endangered them by promoting the burning of fossil fuels.
The lawsuit began under President Obama and continues under President Trump.
